All the Dreams We Dream
Hand-drawn animation, charcoal on paper
21-minute long hand-drawn animation film is an outcome of my research into memory of Kazakh famine in the 1930s. The famine was a result of the atrocious policies of collectivisation and sedentarisation of nomadic peoples. It took lives of approximately 1.5 million people, or one third of entire Kazakh population of the time.
The film is based on two memoirs of survivors, which it reworks into a different kind of narrative, asking what kind of remembrance is possible.
